Kolkata, July 04, 2018: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) announced the launch of a placement portal, ‘’ for the first time in India at JW Marriott,Kolkata. The Honourable Education Minister, Shri. Partha Chatterjee along with Prof. Saikat Mitra, Vice Chancellor, MAKAUT, WB and Mr. Pradip Chopra, Chairman, iLead amongst others, launched the portal & also announced the new initiatives of MAKAUT.

Students passing out from MAKAUT will no longer need to hunt scores of websites to source out job offers as the university has come up with their own Placement Portal for the first time in India – ‘’. This will contain information about few thousands of skilled and qualified job seeking students from 196 affiliated colleges under MAKAUT. This portal will be a database of all students from MAKAUT colleges with their academic & experience backgrounds who could be selected for internships and placements by the prospective employers. The portal will aid students to seek credible job offers where students can resource job opportunities and prospective employers too can reach out to students who fit their company profile.

On his insight about, the Honourable Minister in Charge, Higher Education, West Bengal, Shri. Partha Chatterjee said, “ I’m overjoyed that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) formally known as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), has pioneered ‘’- a web portal which caters to procuring placement assistance to all the students of its affiliated colleges in engineering, technology, pharmacy, management, architecture and various other professional courses. I congratulate MAKAUT team members for their innovative endeavours. I hope that the students of the state will be immensely benefitted from this placement portal. I urge all the affiliated colleges of MAKAUT to avail the best of this portal.”

On this momentous occasion, the Honourable Vice-Chancellor Professor, Saikat Maitra commented, “We are keen to showcase our talented students to the national and international job market through this portal. The resume of the students will be extensively visible to potential employers. Our academic curriculum has gone through an immense transformation and reformation lately. W the integration of MOOCS and emphasising on industrial training programmes, we are committed to improve the quality of our students effectively. The quest of various organizations and employers seeking suitable candidates will be appeased. The portal will also enhance the linkage of academia and industries effectively.”
The portal is being developed by the renowned iLEAD Web Team. Mr. Pradip Chopra, Chairman ILEAD expressed,“I am delighted to be a part of this glorious initiative. It’s an honor for me to be extending my assistance to such a worthwhile project. Our objective is to create a database of all employable students seeking their choice of employment. The portal has a dual purpose- firstly; it provides a medium to students to reach out to employers, secondly, it will allow all SME’s or any other kind of employer to pick their be-fitting applicant from a large group of prospective candidates.”
Never before has there been an integrated point of communication between the prospective employers from Industry and placement officers from various institutions. This job portal will also enable companies to post placement or internship opportunities so that the placement officers of individual colleges can then find the right fitment for the position. The portal will be a single integrated interface for industry and academic interaction and exchange.
Some of the features and highlights:

Students Search:
Companies can search for students based on their subject, college or their last SGPA to find the right fitment. They can themselves choose the CV’s according to their requirement and invite students for interview process. For this search it is not necessary for the companies to register themselves in the placement site. However, though they can directly contact students they can also contact the college placement officer to take the proceedings further.

For Colleges and Placements Officers:
Colleges will sign up with their unique code and other details
University will approve this registration
Once colleges are registered in the site – placement officers of individual colleges will signup – this will then be approved by individual colleges
Once placement officer is approved he or she can start uploading data and Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the students with adequate details as per the requirement of the recruiters in a Standardformat.

The Process for Companies:
Companies can sign up with their details on the website. Their registration will also be approved by MAKAUT.

Post registeration they can start posting jobs openings or internship opportunities in the site. Placement officers will get notification of any new postings in their selected categories so that they can send in eligible candidates for the right profile.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (MAKAUT,WB) is introducing a lieu of tech driven measures such as digital inspection, centralized e-campusing along with offering plethora of e-courses that can be availed by both students as well as teachers.

Being the largest tech varsity in the state that affiliates nearly 200,MAKAUT, is all set to reshape and transform the affiliation system by initiating the Digital Inspection of colleges from the 2019-20 academic session.This advance approach of inspection will not only establish transparency in affiliation system but also reduce cost of physical inspection and time spent considerably. Video recordings and presentations from the colleges sharing details of their infrastructure as well as human resources have been already sought by the university. A digital studio will also be formed where the digital inspections will be monitored and authenticated. The expert members of the Inspection teams will be able to interact with the faculty members, students and authorities of the colleges from the studio itself and obtain a real time assessment of the resources at the disposal of the olleges seeking affiliation from the University.
The University has also re-structured the existing assessment method with Continuous Evaluation Process for the students getting admitted in the 2018-19 academic session based on the model
curriculum of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Students will need to earn 160 credits to earn the B. Tech Degree and 20 additional credits to secure B. Tech (Hons.) Degree. These additional 20 credits are to be earned using digital online platform. The University has already drawn up a basket of courses from different online platforms from which the students may judiciously choose courses to complete the B .Tech (Hons.) degree. For the Non-AICTE Courses being offered by the university, the university has specified 120 credits for getting the degree and an additional 16 credits for earning the degree with honours.

The University envisages, this will create a learning-centric environment, improve student attendance and significantly reduce the time spent in the current system of evaluation. The university has already set in motion the process of preparing the Question and Assignment Banks which will be crucial for implementation of the Continuous Evaluation Process.

Not just students but Faculties too can avail these courses that will advance their performance score. In the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for faculty members, the teachers may be asked to complete a certain number of online courses and will carry a certain weight in the score of the Academic Performance Indicator (API). Similarly, in the case of carrying out Ph.D coursework for researchers, the applicants may be asked to complete some online courses relevant to their area of research.

Moreover, the University has emphasized the need to identify the research areas that have industry relevance and have cumulative societal impact. These areas include disaster and environmental management, agriculture, biomedical applications etc.

The University has already conducted a day long workshop titled “Success Stories Of Unknown Indians” on May 9, 2018 at the Haringhata Campus where management students were given the opportunity to study cases of successful entrepreneur.  The work being done by around thirty entrepreneurs identified by the affiliated Colleges was showcased in front of a panel of experts. Many of these small business organizations were later adopted by the respective Colleges who were asked to use management techniques to improve the business models.
