New Delhi, September 22, 2018: We are delighted to share the news that edX has been chosen as the winner of the Yidan Prize in Education Development, the world’s biggest education prize. The news was formally announced by the Yidan Prize Foundation on Saturday afternoon and the prize ceremony will take place in December.
Founded in 2016 by Dr. Charles Chen Yidan, the Yidan Prize has a mission to create a better world through education. The goal of the Prize and Foundation is to convene a group of innovative thought leaders who will form a powerful platform – working together to create a better world through education according to reports published in blog.edx.org
Dr. Charles Chen Yidan commented, “I congratulate the laureates and nominees alike for their outstanding contribution and achievements. Education should be an area of interest that goes beyond race, religion, economic status or country of origin. I hope every country and region can share the results of education research and development, facilitating more international cooperation in order to create a better world through education.”
EdX was honored to be selected for this prize and recognized for our visionary contributions to innovation in global digital education. Ourmission – to provide access to high quality education at scale to learners around the world, regardless of geographic location, financial resources, prior academic qualifications, gender, race or other demographics – remains at the heart of edX.
In the past six years, we have built a community of over 17 million learners from around the world; partnered with more than 130 prestigious universities, institutions and corporations; and continue to make the edX platform available for free as Open edX open source software. The Open edX platform has been adopted by 1600 sites, where over 20 million additional people learn everyday.
It is because of you, our learners, that edX is the incredible community it is today. Without your love for learning and support, edX would not be the transformative force in education that it has become.
We are incredibly honored to accept this award, and look forward to continuing our vision to reimagine education for learners worldwide.
