St. Aloysius School runner up, Varsha Raghu best speaker
Bangalore, October 05, 2018: Symbiosis School Bangalore bagged the Annual Maria Phillip Memorial India Inter-B School Debate Competition organized by Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME) here today. The winning team was awarded the running trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
St. Aloysius School was the runner up Varsha Raghu from Symbiosis School Bangalore bagged the best speaker. The runner up and best speaker won cash prize of Rs 20,000 each.
Students from a large number of institutes and B-schools participated in the debate competition on the topic ‘In terms of competitiveness in IT, India has already lost out to China. Sanjay Anandaram, Founding partner of Jump StartUp, presided as the chief guest of this year’s debate competition.
The institution and B school that participated were Indian Institute of Management, Christ University, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM), Jyothi Nivas College, and Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship. In addition, T.A Pai Management Institute from Manipal, SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore and St. Aloysius Institute of Management & Information Technology, Mangalore

In Memory of Excellent Debater
This debate competition is held every year in memory of Maria Teresa Philip, late daughter of the Founder and President of XIME, Prof. J. Philip, who is also the former director of IIM-B. Maria died in a tragic accident on September 30th, 1986 in Chennai. She was an extremely popular student and was an excellent speaker, organizer and leader. To commemorate the memory of Maria, who was an excellent debater, and to encourage debating talent among college students, XIME has been organizing this contest for over 22 years now.
