XIME Announces Annual India Inter-B School Debate Competition

Bangalore, November 16, 2018:  Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME) is organising the India Inter-B School Debate Competition on its premises in Electronics City on Hosur Road  on October 1, 2018. Students from a large number of institutes and B-schools will participate in the debate competition on the topic ‘In terms of competitiveness in IT, India has already lost out to China.’  Winners will get a rolling trophy and a cash prize of Rs.50, 000 and a runner up and best speaker will be awarded Rs. 20,000 each. Sanjay Anandaram, Founding partner of JumpStartUp will be presiding as the chief guest of this year’s debate competition.

Jurors and Participants

Few eminent people are summoned as jurors including Priya Chetty Rajagopal, Jury Chairperson,Former Vice President and Client Partner, Stanton Chase International Inc., Liza K Mathew, HR Consultant, Alumna, Batch 1, XIME Bangalore, Padma Srinivas, President, Alumni Association, XIME ,Mr Kaushik Gopalan, Global HR Business Partner, Aspect Software.

Majority of confirmed participants are from Bangalore including Indian Institute of Management, Christ University, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM), Jyothi Nivas College, and Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship. In addition, T.A Pai Management Institute from Manipal, SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore and St. Aloysius Institute of Management & Information Technology, Mangalore are participating as well.

Debate Guidelines

XIME does not charge any registration fee, however the participation is by invitation only. Only one team consisting two members is allowed to participate from a B School. From each team, XIME insists to have a female participant. In a team, one speaker must speak for the motion and other can speak against motion with 4 minutes for each participant. There will be a negative marking for exceeding time limit.

XIME insists participants on bringing ID cards and not to wear their college uniforms or blazers, indicating name of the institute nor mention the name of their institution during the speech.

In Memory of Excellent Debater

This debate competition is held every year in memory of Maria Teresa Philip, late daughter of the Founder and President of XIME, Prof. J. Philip, who is also the former director of IIM-B.  Maria died in a tragic accident on September 30th, 1986 in Chennai. She was an extremely popular student and was an excellent speaker, organizer and leader. To commemorate the memory of Maria, who was an excellent debater, and to encourage debating talent among college students, XIME has been organizing this contest for over 22 years now.
