The Extraordinary Story of the Ordinary: Inauguration by MAKAUT and Bangla Worldwide

Kolkata, July 15, 2020: The positive efforts from every corner of West Bengal to combat the crisis caused by Corona Virus Pandemic is evident since the imposition of Lockdown. The efforts are widespread, be it from the part of the Government, police, doctors, health workers, different communities/groups or common people. All such activities are reflected widely in the media. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB salutes such big efforts of the common people in the form of an E Book. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, WB along with Bangla Worldwide has inaugurated the Bengali version of the E Book digitally. The whole idea has been conceived by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of MKAUT Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra.

Banglaworldwide is a first-of-its-kind online-offline initiative to ‘link’ Bengalis across the world. It is also for all those who love ‘Bangaliana’ in any form and are connected to it, even in the slightest way. 

The battle against Corona would have been a lost one without the undaunted courage of the common people. All of them are warriors and their contributions can never be underestimated. Besides the doctors, nurses, health workers and police, the ordinary, even poor people are risking their lives to take care of others. The pandemic has made people wake up and realise that the real satisfaction lies in helping others round the clock to fight the deadly disease. 

At the inaugural programme Prof. Maitra said, all ordinary people and staffs of the health care department, cleaning and housekeeping sections have displayed immense dedication by putting the nation above themselves and their families. The book recognizes the great efforts of all these ordinary people. 

Prof. Maitra mentioned about the effort of MAKAUT to manufacture hand sanitizer since the beginning of Lockdown and distribute it to the needy, in Government offices and hospitals. He said, that common, even poor people are trying their best to help others in distressed and thus conceived the idea of bringing about an E Book comprising such positive efforts. A collection of such positive news from the newspapers reflects such initiatives of the common people in the E Book. 

The Registrar of MAKAUT, Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri, said that publication of this E-Book by MAKAUT is a tribute to the society. It is a part of MAKAUT’s outreach activities, besides teaching, learning and research. 

Mr. Snehasis Sur, Senior Journalist of Doordarshan and President of Kolkata Press Club and Content Advisor of Bangla Worldwide lauded MAKAUT for its effort of documentation of the extraordinary efforts of the common man to stand beside others through its E Book. 

The Assistant Registrar of MAKAUT, Mr. Anup Kumar Mukherjee, praised the Vice Chancellor for his constant inspiration and motivation to attend the social call during the pandemic and natural calamity. He mentioned that MAKAUT has visited 74 villages and many schools to distribute relief materials. MAKAUT wants to deliver more to the society not only during this Covid 19 pandemic but always. 

Justice Chittatosh Mookerjee, former Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court and former Governer og Goa and Maharashtra, expressed his gratitude to MAKAUT and congratulated and offered his best wishes to the Vice Chancellor for this sincere effort.  

An eminent medical practitioner Dr. Sujit Karpurakayastha, MD of Peerless Hospital praised Prof. Maitra for his effort in distributing hand sanitizers during the initial phase of lockdown, when it suddenly vanished from the market. For all such efforts towards social development he is proud as a Bengali. 

Mr. Sutirtha Bhattacharya, Chairman, West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Board and former Chairman of Coal India Limited also praised the Vice Chancellor. 

The Finance Officer of MAKAUT, Dr. Atri Bhowmik, quoted the famous poem by the renowned poet Shakti Chattopadhyay মানুষ বড় কাঁদছেতুমি মানুষ হয়ে পাশে দাঁড়াও,

মানুষ বড় একলাতুমি তাহার পাশে এসে দাঁড়াও 

The Controller of Examinations, Dr. Subhasish Datta, thanked the Bangla Worldwide for standing beside MAKAUT to inaugurate this E-Book. 

The Information Scientist of MAKAUT, Dr. Md. Aftabuddin, rightly pointed out that the love and blessings of the poor people is the inspiration for MAKAUT to move ahead.
