New Delhi, August 24, 2021: Like the rest of the world, students of Jasudben ML School (JML) – one of the finest ICSE schools in Khar, Mumbai, have been under lockdown and unable to celebrate festivals as they once did owing to the pandemic. While these students have the option of staying safe indoors, they wanted to laud the commitment of our brave soldiers and send them some happiness during the festive season of Raksha Bandhan. Appreciating their courage and sense of duty, the 7th & 8th grade students of JML School created handmade 54 rakhis as a gesture of gratitude. They also made video messages for the “special protection pillars,” expressing their love for the Indian soldiers serving our nation day and night while celebrating Raksha Bandhan.

With churning feelings of homesickness and yearning to protect the country, our soldiers have been away from their loved ones for a long time during this celebration of love, trust and the affectionate bond of siblings. Since sending physical rakhis was risky due to COVID-19, the students chose to make homemade rakhis for the soldiers’ wrists and virtually apply tilak on their foreheads with a hopeful prayer for their long lives.

The videos sent by the students were played on an internal video conference link at their station and Unit level. The Northern Command of the Indian Army took it to their Twitter account to acknowledge the children’s rakhi video, thanking them for their efforts. In the video, a child is seen making a special handmade Rakhi gift for the men and women who courageously protect us and our country. Likewise, PRO Udhampur, The Ministry of Defence tweeted about it by posting a video of the children of JML school thanking the soldiers for their service, risks, and sacrifices for our country while expressing their love and gratitude.

Despite the fact that the schools have been conducting online classes, it is commendable that JML school is educating their students about the importance of the defenders of our nation – the Indian Soldiers. Such activities with students allow them to develop creative skills and moral values such as empathy, kindness, and humanity.
