AP SSC exams 2020 cancelled; all students promoted, confirms education minister

Amaravati, June 20, 2020: Andhra Pradesh education minister Adimulapu Suresh on Saturday announced that the government has decided to cancel the AP SSC examination. Minister further said that the decision is taken considering the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases.

All the AP SSC students will be promoted without appearing for the examination. “Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy suggested us not to conduct examinations and promote all students to next class,” Suresh said.

Over six lakh students had registered for the AP SSC exams scheduled to be held from July 10 to 15, 2020. However, the exam has now been cancelled in view of the pandemic. Earlier, the government had decided to conduct exams following the protocols of Covid-19. The Board had reduced the papers from 11 to 6 and also increased the number of centers. In addition to that, hand sanitizers were made available at exam centers, and other measures were taken. On June 10, the minister had announced that the examination would be conducted as per the schedule. However, the minister at his press conference clarified that the AP SSC exams have been cancelled.

Earlier, the child rights organisations in the state had approached AP governor Biswabhusan Harichandan, to seek his intervention to advise the state government to cancel the SSC examinations for the safety of students in view of Covid-19.

AP government has also decided to cancel AP Inter supplementary examination. The education minister further confirmed that all the 1st and 2nd year students who failed in AP inter examination are also declared pass.

AP government had declared AP inter results 2020 on June 12, for both first and second year. The overall pass percentage of AP inter results for first and second year recorded at 59% and 63% respectively.

The AP government had also decided to promote students from class 6 to 9 without any exams due to the pandemic, it plans to conduct SSC exams.
