Blind School urges TS Govt to implement Persons with Disability Act 2016

New Delhi, September 01, 2020: DWAB, a NGO formed by the Blind for the Development of the Blind, 20 years ago and running a blind school Nalgonda School met Smt D.Divya IAS, Special Secretary for Women and Child Welfare and Disabled Welfare this weekend here in the city.  Team comprising of its President Sri Kollu Venkata Subbaiah, Sri Ponugoti Chokka Rao General Secretary and Sri Paramesh Treasurer, represented Smt  D.Divya IAS, presented her a memorandum and  requested the Government to pay an amount of Rs. 3000/- as pension for the visually impaired Children  who are studying in Schools  aged between 06 to 14 years.

They also represented and requested the top official to send the current year grant in aid file to Government of India immediately.

We have also requested to implement the Persons with Disability Act 2016 immediately, duly insisting to appoint a disabled person as the Commissioner for Disabled welfare in Government of Telangana informed Sri Ponugonti Chokka Rao General Secretary in a press note issued in Hyderabad today.

According to the Act,  disabled person must be made it’s Commissioner. But, that never happened. The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 is not being implemented in the state, which should be done with immediate effect, they demanded.

Responding to their representation, the officer Smt D.Divya, IAS, assured the representation that she would take necessary steps for resolving all the outstanding issues after COVID – 19 recedes.
