Chandigarh, August 08, 2023: The School of Law at NarseeMonjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Chandigarh Campus organized a talk show. The event saw the participation of esteemed legal experts who shared valuable insights on topics like “Privacy and Data Protection Laws.”
The talk show commenced with a warm welcome to the dignitaries and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Prof. Dr. Jaskiran Kaur, the Director of NMIMS Chandigarh Campus, addressed the audience and facilitated the distinguished experts.
Advocate Gagan Pradeep Singh Bal, a Senior Standing Counsel at the Election Commission of India in Punjab and Haryana High Court, and former Senior Counsel of the State of Punjab in the Supreme Court of India, shared his extensive experience and knowledge with the attendees. He spoke about the importance of such activities acting as a galvanizing force to attain the metamorphosis of budding lawyers and help them reach their zenith. “As lawyers, we have to be mindful of our responsibilities towards our conscience, the clients, and most importantly, the court. A lawyer has to obey the parameters of the act and the rules prescribed. You need to perform as a distinct force and, by following the legal discipline, be an exemplary example for society and perform better than any other pillar of society,” he added.
Following his talk, Mr. Arihant Singh, Legal Counsel at CELA Asia, Microsoft, New Delhi, shed light on the topic “Privacy and Data Protection Laws” and gave his insights on the practical aspects of the corporate world. Mr. Singh, with over 6 years of experience in the legal industry, advised the students, saying, “As corporate lawyers, you cannot just go by the book and look at an issue unidimensionally. You must see the problem in multidimensional ways, and understanding a subject in detail is imperative.” He further urged them to read books and publications to keep themselves updated on the new advances, like the high-achieving technology, in their fields. “It is not just about the survival of the fittest but the survival of the smartest today. Talent only helps if you are hardworking, and law is a collaborative effort of making other people’s lives better by sticking to ethics and core values,” he added.
The interactive session that followed allowed the audience to engage with the experts and gain deeper insights into the subject matter.
