Mumbai, january 06, 2024: The rollout of advanced wireless networks like 5G and 6G is expected to boost efficiency, bring in a data revolution and aid explorations in the realm of virtual reality, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. A faster and more seamless connection will facilitate more meaningful collaborations across the globe. Moreover, in the academic sphere, the shift is expected to bring in several benefits encompassing education, research, and campus operations. Furthermore, innovations such as Electric Vehicles (EVs), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and emerging healthcare technologies are transforming the industrial, educational and research fields.

Addressing these unique challenges and opportunities posed by new and emerging technologies, NMIMS Mumbai’s Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering (MPSTME), hosted the ‘Academic Conclave – Sensing and Data Acquisition; 5G/6g Research; Electric Vehicle Testing’ on 22 December 2023 in collaboration with National Instruments (NI), VVDN Technologies and MathWorks. Eminent industry leaders, Mr Priyachandar P, Country Head (Indirect), NI India; Mr Rajat Kumar, Academic Programme Manager – India, VVDN Technologies, and Dr Praful Pai, Manager, EECS, Signal Processing and Communications, MathWorks, graced the occasion.

Prof. Dattatray Sawant, Convenor of VVDN – NI Academic Conclave introduced at the beginning that the conclave offered faculty and researchers exposure to cutting-edge tools, training, and insights into industry needs as well as a networking opportunity for faculties and educational institutions to establish healthy collaborations. Moreover, the congregation encouraged higher education institutions to adapt their programmes to meet industry demands, update curricula and stay informed about emerging technologies.

At the event, speakers suggested that technological developments call for sweeping changes in engineering education. Higher education institutions must introduce specialised courses; encourage faculty and researchers to engage in projects that explore the capabilities and applications of these emerging technologies and integrate engineering curriculum with subjects focused on 5G, and 6G technologies, EV design, ADAS development and healthcare technology to keep students and faculty aware about the latest advancements in the industry and elevate their teaching and research endeavours.

The informative conclave featured discussions and deliberations on the latest technologies, solutions, and offerings designed to elevate teaching and research. It was a tailored platform for engineering institutes, researchers, faculties and keen students to come together and have meaningful conversations about complex technologies and get a clear understanding of their applications in the realm of academics and research.

Speaking at the conclave,Mr Priyachandar P expressed optimism towards the future of EV and ADAS in India. He spoke about the shift across various industries experienced during the last three years and the opportunities it presented for aspiring students. Further, the speaker encouraged students to upskill and develop versatile skills to gain an edge in the competitive job market of the near future.

During the gathering, industry experts discussed the potential career opportunities emerging across different sectors due to technological advancements. They suggested that students specializing in engineering could explore promising job prospects as Battery Engineers, Electric Vehicle Design Engineers, Electric Powertrain Engineers, Charging Infrastructure Specialists, Vehicle Testing Engineers, EV System Integration Engineers, and more.

Speaking about the event,Dr.Alka Mahajan, Dean, NMIMS MPSTME, said,“The conclave provided attendees with an opportunity to explore cutting-edge advancements, elevate their capabilities in dealing with engineering challenges and stay ahead of the curve. The conclave was in line with NMIMS MPSTME’s initiative to encourage future-ready learning among aspiring students and its focus on continuous learning development of its faculty members.”
