New Delhi, June 17, 2020: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to hold consultation and take a decision on Board exam by Tuesday when it will consider a plea of parents for not holding exams in view of corona pandemic.

Also the apex court asked the Board to examine whether examination of the remaining paper for Board exams could be scrapped and marks could be alloted on the basis of internal assessment.

A group of parents, whose children have to appear in Class 12 Board examination, had moved the apex court challenging the CBSE decision to conduct the remaining Board examination from July 1 to July 15. The parents claimed if students were to appear for the examination, amid the ongoing coronavirus, then their health safety would be compromised according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

A bench comprising Justices A.M. Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjeev Khanna directed the CBSE to consider the situation and revert by next week. The petitioners sought scrapping of the remaining exams, saying marks could be allotted based on internal assessment.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had said that schools, colleges, educational/training/coaching institutions will be opened after consultation with States and UTs during Phase II of Unlock1.

Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had on Tuesday held a review meeting with the Secretary of School Education and Literacy Department, Chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education and Director General of National Testing Agency (NTA), to discuss the present education scenario.
