New Delhi, August 10, 2021:  The third edition of the annual prestigious ‘Smt. Jyoti Dwivedi Memorial Scholarship Awards’ was held by Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), Mumbai. The scholarship amount is provided to JBIMS personally by Mr. Nimish Dwivedi from JBIMS’ batch of 1993. This is the first-ever scholarship instituted at this prestigious business school. We spoke to Nimish Dwivedi at his office on the background and the purpose of this award.

The excerpts from interview with Nimish Dwivedi :

Q. What is the background of this award?

The annual prestigious ‘Smt. Jyoti Dwivedi Memorial Scholarship Awards’ are exclusive to the students of JBIMS, Mumbai. We established the grant in 2019. We instituted the scholarship in memory of my late mother and named the scholarship in her memory. She had firm belief in higher education as she was one among the graduates from her hometown Rajkot in Gujarat during the nineteen sixties. My late mother taught me never to let challenges stop me in any way.

What is the purpose of the award?

We give the scholarships to the second year MMS students to meet their educational expenses based on their first-year scores and their family’s financial standing. Back in the days, we had no zoom, no laptops, and no money to buy transparencies. We had enormous challenges in terms of even getting textbooks to read for some subjects. But we had this fighting and winning spirit. I like to point out the words of Dr. Kavita Laghate, Director of JBIMS to whom I am grateful for her support in instituting the scholarship. She says the scholarship not just supports and benefits students, but also encourages them to evolve a mindset of giving back to society and to their institute while they build their careers.

Q. How do you envision the future of the awards?

We presented the 3rd year awards, this year there were six scholarships. In 2019, the first scholarship year, there were 2 core awards and four ad hoc awards. In 2020, 2 core awards and three ad hoc awards were distributed. This year, there were 2 core awards and four ad hoc awards. So, there is growth. This year, we also built the scholarship microsite within the JBIMS website which keeps record of the award related activities.

Another interesting aspect of the growth is that my batch mates from JBIMS also attend the awards as the chief guest. This year, Mr. Irfan A. Kazi, Chief Investment Officer for the SWAMIH Investment Fund I Of SBICap Ventures, graced the occasion. Previously, Mr. Ganesh Kaulaskar – Co-Founder & Director of Maitreya Capital & Business Services Pvt Ltd, Mr. Indrajit Gupta – Co-founder and Director at Founding Fuel Publishing Pvt Ltd and my senior Mr. Venkataramani K – Managing Director & CEO at Health & Glow Pvt Ltd., had attended the event.

Q. What about scholarships?

Six scholarships were presented this year, including two core awards of Rs. 1 lakh each and four ad hoc awards of Rs. 50000 each. The winners of the two core scholarships are Vaibhav Tambe and Jatin Sadrani; the ad hoc scholarship winners are Hemant Aher, Mrinali Biwalkar, Darsh Ganatra, and Shaily Kayal. The winners were also gifted with a copy of the best-selling book by Nimish titled ‘Marketing Chronicles: A Compendium of Global and Local Marketing Insights from the Pre-Smartphone and Post-Smartphone Eras.’
