Westland Books presents Abundant Sense by Chandan Sinha, offering a fresh look at Rahim’s enduring wisdom

National, July 09, 2025: Westland Books is delighted to unveil Chandan Sinha’s  Abundant Sense, under its Ekada imprint on July 14, 2025. Abundant Sense is a comprehensive collection of more than half of Abdur Rahim Khan-i-Khanan’s 290 dohas that bring his wisdom to the new generation.

Rahim was not just an ordinary courtier but a navaratna of Akbar’s illustrious court and a confidante of the emperor. A formidable warrior, the chief-of-chiefs, minister, scholar, and polyglot, he was a poet whose verses transcend the ages and are quoted equally today by people on the streets, in classrooms and in conferences. Chandan Sinha, a writer, translator and former IAS officer, is known for meticulously preserving the metaphor, meaning and music of Hindi poetry of the early modern period in India. In this book, Sinha has not just translated Rahim’s couplets, but each verse is also accompanied by a brief insightful explanation of the allusions therein, whether to incidents from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata or the Puranas.

Abundant Sense is more than a book; it is a profound tribute and an invitation to rediscover the wit, wisdom, and beauty of the verses of one of the most remarkable figures in our history and literature.

Chandan Sinha, the translator and author of this book says:

Rahim, the quintessential Indian poet, speaks through his dohas on love, fate, Bhakti, bravery, pride, humility, desire, ego, wise and worldly conduct, and much else. These translations, in metre and rhyme, seek to echo the words, voice and music of his verse.
