ICAI’s EIRC Hosts Grand IBC Conclave in Kolkata A Focus on ‘Resurgence Through Resolutions’

Kolkata, September 06, 2023: The Eastern India Regional Council (EIRC) of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) proudly hosted an enlightening IBC Conclave at the Hotel Taj Bengal, Kolkata, on September 2nd, 2023. The gathering of approx. 250 delegates were honoured to have Shri Sudhaker Shukla, Whole Time Member of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), as the Chief Guest.

Adding to the grandeur of the inaugural session were, CA. (Dr.) Debashis Mitra, Immediate Past President, ICAI, and CA. Sushil Kumar Goyal, Council Member, ICAI, Programme Director, Chairman GST & IDTC committee spoke on GST Issues under IBC. CA. Mitra spoke and mesmerised the audience and highlighting the role of Chartered Accountants in the success of IBC.

CA. Debayan Patra, Chairman of EIRC set the tone for the day with his welcome address. He highlighted the paramount importance of Resolution in the rejuvenation and resurgence of the Indian Economy.

CA. Vishnu Kumar Tulsyan, Secretary, EIRC and also chairing the Committee of IBC of EIRC started off with his address to the audience, explaining the chosen Theme of the Conclave – ‘Resurgence Through Resolutions’ and its purpose.

Power Session on Topic: Challenges faced by Judiciaries in IBC vis-à-vis – Expectations of Stakeholders – Graced by Shri Rohit Kapoor, HOD & Hon’ble NCLT Member (Judicial), Smt. Bidisha Bannerjee, Hon’ble NCLT Member (Judicial), Shri Balraj Joshi, Hon’ble NCLT Member (Technical)

Interesting and Insightful Session on Topic: IBC an Evolving Economic Legislation & Judicial Backing – Deliberated by Shri Santosh Shukla, ED, IBBI and renowned law practitioner, Advocate Ashish Makhija dealt with the Topic – Priority of Government Dues under IBC – Analysing Current Jurisprudence.

The Conclave also featured topic on Innovative approach for value maximisation towards resolutions dealt by the expert CA. Ashish Chhawchharia, Kolkata in details.

Shri Debajyoti Ray Chaudhuri, MD & CEO, NESL enthusiastically responded to queries regarding Information Utilities of IBC.  The day long conclave has put in all its endeavours to touch upon all relevant topics of IBC and also has presented a Session on Challenges & Opportunities in Real Estate during CIRP with emphasis on Home Buyer through CA. Jayesh Sanghrajka.  Issues of Income Tax under IBC was also dealt in detail by CA. Raghvendra Goel, Partner, PSMC.

The audience were glued to their seats to witness and hear experts of the Panel Discussion on Topic: Using Wisdom of COC in Fast Tracking Revival Process. Eminent panellists delivered their expert advice comprising of personalities like, Dr. M.S. Sahoo, Former Chairperson, IBBI, Adv. Anoop Rawat, New Delhi, Shri Partha Sen, DGM, SAMRO, SBI been moderated by CA. Subodh Kumar Agrawal, Past President, ICAI.

The daylong event concluded with a very interesting Quiz, conducted by CA. Vishnu Kr. Tulsyan, Secretary, EIRC and the host Chairman of the Committee of IBC, EIRC.
