Ahmedabad, November 01, 2023: Sohini Sengupta, a former fellow of Anant National University, has been honoured with the 13th Laadli Media & Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity in 2023. She is currently a dedicated member at Anant National University. She received this prestigious accolade at an awards ceremony held at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur.
Sengupta’s award-winning entry, titled “Trans Voices In Campuses: The Need For Safe Spaces Beyond Electoral Lip Service,” was published on the platform “Feminism In India” and was recognized in the category of “English: Web – Features.”
Sohini’s exploration delves into the intersectionality of challenges faced by the transgender community and exposes everyday experiences of invisibility and homophobia within the system. The article emphasises the lack of essential infrastructure like inclusive toilets and discriminatory pedagogical practices on campuses. It advocates for the elimination of “micro-aggressions” and urges genuine efforts to create a society that is truly inclusive and welcoming to transgender individuals.
