Kolkata, March 29, 2021:  Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB has decided to help the farmers in their relentless effort of food production. It has initiated a Centre for Precision Farming. The main objectives of the Centre will be:

Disease Identification

Disease Prediction

Weather Forecasting

The University is dedicated towards educating the farmers of West Bengal and across India about the benefits of precision farming and wants to give them an idea of the future technology in agriculture. MAKAUT is always ready to help the farmers of our country to solve their crop related problems. The Centre will have the facility of  identification of crop diseases through a software and take necessary steps accordingly. Again the Centre will help the farmers in disease prediction. As regards weather forecasting, the new technology of precision farming gives importance to micro climate, that is, the weather in a particular area, so that the farmers can get a lot of benefits and produce crops accordingly.

Actually, Precision Farming is a strategy that gathers, processes and analyzes temporal, spatial and individual data and combines it with other information for improved resource use efficiency, enhancing productivity, quality, profitability and sustainability of agricultural production. This information and technology-based system identifies, analyses and manages variability in fields by conducting right crop production practices at the right place and time and in the right way, for optimum profitability, sustainability and protection of the land resource. Fertility of land resource is nowadays depleted due to random application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

It is still only a portion of farmers who have practised any type of Precision Farming technology to re-organise the total system of agriculture towards low-input, high-efficiency and sustainable farming.

Precision Farming is an approach where inputs are utilised in precise amounts to get increased average yields, compared to traditional cultivation techniques.
